About Kira Lorne and Black Orchid Press
I am an independent author and founder of Black Orchid Press, focused on relationship-driven fiction that explores vulnerability, agency, and emotional realism.
Earlier in my career, I worked in a media environment where storytelling and intimacy were central themes. That experience shaped how I think about audience connection, ethical representation, and the responsibility that comes with writing about relationships.
Today, I bring that foundation into contemporary fiction that balances emotional depth with consent-forward storytelling. My work spans redemption arcs, complicated love stories, and character-driven narratives rooted in flawed but deeply human protagonists.
Beyond writing, I have built and managed the full publishing ecosystem behind my books — formatting, distribution strategy, metadata optimization, print production, website development, and cross-platform marketing. What began as a creative hobby has evolved into a small independent publishing operation focused on sustainable growth.
I’m not interested in shock for its own sake. I care about intimacy that’s earned, characters who surprise themselves, and moments that feel a little too real to be comfortable. My stories are known for their softness and their sharpness—sometimes both at once.
I’m also the primary writing voice behind Black Orchid Press, an independent imprint that supports multiple authors. While I do most of the typing, I don’t do everything alone. Beth handles the majority of book editing, and Chris and I trade off cover art duties depending on the project. Cody handles a lot of the heavy lifting. It’s a small, collaborative operation. We’ve all known each other for quite a long time,
At the end of the day, I write because I love it, and because there’s something powerful about stories that let people feel seen in places they don’t always talk about out loud.
Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
About The Website
The goal was to make a website that could be used as a hub for our creative efforts, whether that be writing, art, tool creation, or whatever else came along. We were all fans of Meow Wolf and art installations, performance art, and writing of all kinds... and what you see here is the result of our efforts.
Kira Lorne is the headliner, you've probably figured that out. Mainly due to her sales, Kira carries the rest of us and we're very grateful to her... (it makes her happy if I say that). But, please keep in mind this is not a publisher-run operation. We're not a commune, we're not a cult, we're not rich, and we're not trying to do the "normal." All to say, we try to have fun here; we're just a group of friends that enjoy satire, romance, and smashing genres together to make something fun in the process.
A few things we think you should know about the site:
Most of us here are artists of one kind or another. We are also happily using all the tools available to us to generate art as quickly as we can to keep the site fresh and fun. The BOP group of misfits uses AI in various forms; we use 3D software, Adobe products, and various other tools to make what you see here. Just being upfront about that. If you really think that Kira is a cartoon character, then you believe that, but we use various tools to add artistic elements to our work.
Also, I want to be clear as the use of AI has a lot of different tastes out there. Some hate it, mostly for reasons they haven't given much thought to; some love it, again for reasons not thought about. Some can't tell the difference, and some just want to know more about it. The artwork and writings posted here by all involved with BOP are original ideas, originally made (in whatever form that might be: writing, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) by a human (cringes that I have to say that). We sit behind a computer, type, draw, make, think up, scream at, and design everything here. We are real people with artistic styles, tastes, and a healthy sense of technology and where it fits in the world. AI is used in various forms, from Grammarly to chatbots, and from Adobe tools to Midjourney or Firefly, as tools... not as the main generator of content or ideas.
For about three years, no one paid any attention to this site from the outside. It was just a few friends making fun stuff that we shared with each other, teaching each other how we made a new thing. Now that the site is far more public than it used to be, we get the occasional hater or troll... which is fine; everyone is welcome here. Just be aware, we try to make a fun and healthy place for everyone here at BOP. If our tactics, tools, or personalities aren't your thing, we totally agree that it's your opinion.
Many, if not most, of the books or stories associated with the BOP group were written long before the current state of chatbots existed. We don't get very involved in the science or feelings behind the tools... you can have whatever opinion you want about how artists, authors, or people go about their craft. But be warned: satire, romance, and even horror genres are double-edged swords. You may find yourself in the middle of a story. I find most of my reference material in my inbox every morning, plenty enough to write about for decades to come.
We hope you get what we're trying to do here at BOP, and we hope you'll participate with us.
